Computing
Computing at Valley Primary
At Valley Primary School and Nursery, we intend to develop ‘thinkers of the future’ through a modern, ambitious and relevant education in computing. We recognise that technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal part in our pupils’ lives, not only whilst they learn at our school, but as they move forward in their education and into their adult lives. Therefore, from the EYFS right through to the end of Year 6, we want to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. Our goal is to equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity which will enable them to become active, responsible participants in the digital world. Our broad curriculum, encompassing computer science, information technology and digital literacy reflects this.
Our aim is to provide a computing curriculum that is designed to balance the acquisition of a broad and deep knowledge alongside opportunities to apply skills in various digital contexts. Therefore, beyond teaching computing discreetly, we also allow our pupils the opportunity to apply and develop what they have learned in all subjects across the wider curriculum. This will, in turn, support our pupils to become skilful digital citizens and computer scientists. This approach also makes learning more creative and accessible. By using technology fluidly alongside traditional methods in the classroom, we hope that, by the end of Key Stage Two, children have the independence and confidence to choose the best tool to fulfil any task and challenge set by teachers.
